PULLMAN, Wash. - Beginning spring semester, Washington State University's Distance Degree Programs will offer a bachelor of arts in business administration with a major in international business. Other online business administration majors include entrepreneurship, management and operations, and management information systems. WSU's International Business program, ranked 18th in the nation by US News and World Report, prepares students for overseas assignments, employment with multinational corporations, and positions that carry worldwide responsibilities. "Online courses have always transcended geography," said Janet Kendall, director of academic programs at DDP. "WSU's strategic plan emphasizes preparing students to excel in a global society, and the new international business major supports this." The major has two special requirements. First, students must complete nine credits of study abroad - but not in the business major. The idea is to "get some cultural immersion, to learn about the country you're going to," said Bonnie Burkett, an academic coordinator for WSU's College of Business. "They can study anything they want, language, history, geography, anything that interests them." The second requirement is one year of foreign language beyond high school. The second semester may be taken during foreign study. That requirement goes hand in hand with studying abroad, Burkett said, and gives students a deeper comprehension of different cultures.
