National Universities Degree Consortium (NUDC)

Distance education may have revolutionized the way students pursue college credit. Geography and time of day may no longer restrict where and when students may study, because taking courses via distance learning means they may study at times and places convenient to them.

The National Universities Degree Consortium (NUDC) is an organization of seven long-established, well- respected universities offering online courses and degree programs. Many courses and degrees may be transferable between the consortium universities and to others, depending on degree requirements. Many adults may find the time and place flexibility of distance learning provides a way to complete a degree or pursue their next degree and open the doors on a new career.

NUDC (http://www.nudc.org/) was established in the 1990s, responding to requests from non-traditional students seeking college courses and degree programs delivered in time and place flexible formats that work well for off-campus students. Before enrolling in any course or degree, we recommend that you confirm your specific degree or program requirements and seek your academic advisor's help as needed.

The universities partnering in NUDC may be Colorado State University, Kansas State University, Oklahoma State University, University of Minnesota, University of Missouri, University of South Carolina and Washington State University. Each university may have different admission requirements, and opportunities for "testing out" of required coursework are available at some institutions. Students may take courses from one or a number of the universities without applying for admission. Consult your academic advisor to assure that the course you take will be accepted in pursuing the credential you are seeking.

Students may study subjects in areas as diverse as criminal justice, engineering, general studies, social sciences, library science, design and merchandising and gerontology; please see NUDC.org for complete up-to-date information.

Students may take individual courses or pursue their degree online, and in most cases distance courses transfer seamlessly to traditional on-campus degree programs. Many students who participate in distance learning may have already completed some college coursework and find that distance learning is the practical way.

You may contact an NUDC member university for more details on your choice of course.
